Clark’s Speech and Debate Team Capture Second
The Clark College Speech and Debate Team took second place among all community colleges in attendance at the Western Washington University Invitational Forensics Tournament in Bellingham, Wash., in January.
Teams from 21 schools attended the event and participated in both individual events and debate in three divisions that included open, junior and novice.
Clark’s awards included first place trophies in novice After-Dinner Speaking and junior After-Dinner Speaking; second place in novice Prose Interpretation; and third in open After-Dinner Speaking.
In addition, members of the team advanced to the elimination rounds in two forms of debate. The team of Chris Reinhold and Alexandra Taylor advanced to the quarterfinal round of junior division of National Parliamentary Debate (NPDA or two-person team debate).
Meanwhile, Emm O’Dell and Christos Argiannis advanced to the semi-final round in the novice NPDA division. In individual debate, Mindy Metcalf advanced to the quarterfinal round in the novice division.
The next tournament will held on the campus of Oregon State University February 22-24.
