From the president
Clark is a community of people who mix together every day to help our students discover their potential. Food is the common ingredient that we share. Combine the two to get fulfillment, laughter and connection.
It was fun to be a part of the “In the Kitchen” article and video for this edition of Partners. I’m not a cook, but I learned tips for an easy meal and dessert that I’m confident I can prepare for my family. What’s more, I had the opportunity to sit and enjoy a meal with Clark students and President Robert Knight. The experience reminded me how gathering around a meal helps us form relationships, share a common experience and foster a sense of belonging.
We are about to have many more of these moments when the Tod and Maxine McClaskey Culinary Institute opens its doors on September 25. The space is transformed—gone is the cafeteria-style layout. Now there are open kitchens, a large food court filled with tables and chairs, food kiosks, a salad bar, a bakery and coffee retail space and other amenities in the 20,000-square-foot layout.
Our Clark community, as well as alumni, friends and visitors will enjoy years of conversation, collaboration and healthy, local food all possible because of people like you. Individuals, organizations and foundations made more than $5 million in leadership philanthropic commitments for this $10.5 million project. They have invested in Clark because they understand and value the significant role the college plays in educating and training the future employees of cuisine and baking establishments across this region.
The brisk pace of change in the culinary landscape in Southwest Washington is exhilarating. Nearly every week I’m hearing about new establishments opening or developments being announced. Clark is perfectly positioned to play a significant role in shaping this community’s future.
Join us today to be a part of the holistic growth of Southwest Washington. Help us make our goal and bring this flagship program back to our community in style.
