Before joining the Clark College Foundation, Calen played a pivotal role at the University of Southern California (USC), where he contributed to an $8 billion transformative fundraising campaign that redefined the institution’s future. His 15 years of experience at USC honed his expertise in building powerful, purpose-driven teams and fostering relationships that yield long-term support for critical initiatives.
Under Calen’s leadership, the Clark College Foundation has embarked on a journey of innovation and growth, leading the development of two new funds explicitly designed to support program excellence at Clark College. These funds, the Clark College Student Success Fund and the Innovation Fund work to give all students the opportunity to succeed. Whether it’s wraparound services or the ability to go on research exhibitions students at a community college usually wouldn’t have access to, Calen is deepening the Foundation’s impact on the community of Southwest Washington. Continuing to grow the Foundation’s partnership with the Cowlitz Tribe has led these funds and many other projects to fruition. Calen is a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that these principles are woven into the fabric of the Foundation’s work. His forward-thinking approach is evident in his efforts to create a sustainable and responsive organization, ready to meet the challenges of the future.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Calen is deeply engaged in community service, serving as a national board member for the Point Foundation, where he advocates for the empowerment and education of LGBTQ+ students. His passion for making a difference extends beyond the workplace, reflecting his belief in the power of education to transform lives. Calen holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the Edward R Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University and a Master of Business Administration from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.
Calen embraces a deep appreciation for music, design, and science fiction, interests that fuel his creativity and inform his leadership style. He is also an advocate for thoughtful leadership, striving to be both a mentor and a servant leader, guiding his team with humility and a commitment to excellence. Calen resides in Vancouver, Washington with his partner and their two dogs.
